Hello There, "This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it" Psalm 118: 24 Not each and every day recalled in this Psalm was a perfect day. ENNUI-Some years ago, one of you asked me, "Do you have any fears when you preach?" Recall my reply, "Yes, that any hearer would respond 'so what'" I didn't wish to be boring then, nor now. Know what "ennui" is now? If not-look it up. VETERANS DAY-You should make an addition to your "Debts I'll never repay" list. MUSIC-I often hear Jeanene playing organ or piano from the other room. Do you remember the chorus that began, "You ask me why I'm happy-well I'll just tell you why. Because my sins are gone". PUNCTUALITY-That is the word you seemed to note in last week's outline. That entire list came from Dr. C. Russell Archer as he taught a course on ethics to us in 1956. In history the pastor and the schoolteacher were regarded as the most refined persons in a town. As such, they were to model proper "social graces". Among them was the manifestation of a proper respect for the schedules of others. Ephesians 5:16. WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT-A reader wrote me this week to share. This fine executive had climbed the corporate ladder and moved away from God. Oh, he thought about being restored, just never had time. September 11 started him thinking. He, and his wife, are back in fellowship with the Lord and are active in a local church in a city in the Northeast. That is "What it is all about"-isn't it? DID YOU SEE-Anne Graham Lotz and Franklin Graham on "Larry King Live" last week? A special tribute was paid as Billy Graham turned 83. The story goes that when Billy rises each day that Satan awakes with a shriek, "Oh no! he's up again, what now?" CLASSIFYING-Is a dangerous matter, especially in dealing with individuals. Some always fall outside the lines. A chuckle as the writer of an article suggests that there are three types 1. Those that make things happen. 2. Those that are aware that something is happening, but don't know why. 3. Those that are clueless. I have observed three types. 1. Those that live in the Past-they talk about People. Those that live in the Present-they talk about Problems. Those that live in Projections-they talk about Possibilities. CHARACTERS-These are those folks that fall "outside of the lines". Age makes us to look back rather fondly on the "characters" that touch and shape our lives. As a minister I have had my full share. COASTING-One of the reactions to last week as I talked about enduring relationships between pastors and flocks was that many pastors seem to "coast". That is, they reach a "comfort zone" and tend to relax. Milo Herrick sings "It's a battlefield brother. Not a recreation room. It's a fight, and not a game" His, Ron Krantz
