THE MAIN THING IS THE MAIN THING

ST. JOHN 3:1-21-About fifty years ago, as a beginning Bible College student, 
I led a "wing" of Sky Pilots in a local church. As a memory assignment, we 
(myself snd 15 boys aged 12&13)learned these verses together. I found them 
interesting then and intriguing yet today. The PRESTIGE of Nicodemus (verse 
1) and the POWER of Christ 
(verse 2) soon are passed over and the discussion revolves around the PATHWAY 
to Life in verse 3. May we safely assume that being "born again" is the main 
thing?

BURDEN,BLESSINGS.BARBECUE-Jeanene, Phil and I met the team from Xenia on 
their way to Mexico to work for a local church there. As I told you last 
week, we met them at Kreuz Market. Pastor Larry Cole said as he ate more 
brisket, "This must be the best barbecue restaurant in the world".

burden of the work ahead along with many blessings. Add barbecue to that 
mixture for a sure-fired cure of most anything.

POWER AND RESPONSIBILITY-James 3:1 "Be not many masters" is a solemn warning 
to any believer who aspires to any level of authority.

CONCERN AND COMFORT-I learned this week that a dear friend was showing 
initial signs of a long-term care difficulty. Matthew 5:7 brings me comfort 
because I have seen Romans 12:8 acted out as they "showed mercy with 
cheerfulness". "Blessed are the merciful for-------------they shall obtain 
mercy".

THE LOCAL CHURCH-Some of you have written to ask me why I seem to emphasize 
the local church. Simple; while I do not fight or fail to see the value of 
organizations or para-church ministries, it seems to me that the thrust of 
Scripture is on a maturelocal group of believers who become examples of 
completeness and strength.
