Good Lord's Day, JESUS, USE ME DEAR LORD I'LL BE A WITNESS, IF YOU WILL HELP MY WEAKNESS, I KNOW THAT I'M NOT WORTHY, LORD OF THEE BY EYES OF FAITH I SEE THEE UPON THE CROSS OF CALV'RY DEAR LORD I CRY, LET ME THY SERVANT BE. Chorus: JESUS USE ME AND O LORD DON'T REFUSE ME, FOR SURELY THERE'S A WORK THAT I CAN DO; AND EVEN THOUGH IT'S HUMBLE. LORD HELP MY WILL TO CRUMBLE. THO THE COST BE GREAT I'LL WORK FOR YOU. I'LL STAND FOR THEE DEAR JESUS, WHATE'ER THE COST MAY BE; I'LL SPREAD THE GOSPEL TO THE LOST EACH DAY; BUT IF IT BE THY WILL, LORD, TO SEND ME O'ER THE SEA, I'LL FOLLOW THEE THO' DEATH SHOULD COME MY WAY. "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." Ephesians 2: 8-10 has it clearly and in the correct order. THE SERVANTS KNOW-That story seemed to catch the eye and heart of many readers. The message of that story is the theme of my writing today, Those of you that know Pastor Henry Melton, could probably tell stories of your own about this choice servant. SPECIAL WORDS-Seem to be the gift of those who have enriched lives as songwriters. Jeanene and I were privileged to sit under the ministry of the late Audrey Meier. Remember these words that she set to music: TO BE USED OF GOD- TO SING, TO SPEAK, TO PRAY TO BE USED OF GOD- TO SHOW SOMEONE THE WAY I LONG SO MUCH, TO FEEL THE TOUCH OF HIS CONSUMING FIRE. TO BE USED OF GOD- IS MY DESIRE. I WANT TO STAY-Here and think of more songs with you. I may have lost you already. "My House is Full: But My Fields Are Empty." I just lost another reader. LET'S TALK ABOUT PEOPLE-Gotcha!!!People just like you. When I began these weekly notes almost two years ago, I had some guidelines in mind. If I used personal stories I would have lived them. The two I'll share with you today are ones that I have lived and I hope had positive input.Buzz and Marilyn- William (Buzz) and Marilyn Eichman are in touch with me by e-mail from Sitka, Alaska. I know them from my ministry time in Xenia, Ohio. Marilyn taught in the school system and Buzz and his dad ran Eichmans store on Main Street uptown. Memorial Presbyterian was the family church. We encountered each other often in areas of civic and multi-church service. Their two sons were active in high school sports and growing into good citizens. I learned that the family spent much of the summer at a church youth camp as dishwashers and general help. Off to college for the boys. Careers, weddings etc.--Then graduations etc. About three years ago, I hear of their plan to devote these later years of life to service on a full-time basis. A church operated school in Alaska needed teachers and maintenance help. Buzz and Marilyn chose this over quiet "Grandpa and Grandma" years. I just heard this week that they have been reassigned at the end of June. Warren Wilson College in Asheville, North Carolina awaits the arrival of Buzz and Marilyn Eichman. GODSPEED! Tamera Swailes-This e-mail came from St. Petersburg, Russia. (The real St. Petersburg, she said). Do you have persons that you feel are "close" and yet "jump" into your life only about each four or five years? I first met Tamera (Tammy or Tam) in her hometown (Mt. Pleasant, Iowa) when she was in junior/senior high school years. Her pastor had asked me to come for a midwinter youth retreat. He had invited other churches in the area, so we had a large group. Tam was the typical fun-loving teen, but there was a spirit toward the Lord that I have described as "eager". She was saying "yes" to all that God was saying. This retreat became an annual event for several years. God was faithful to us. JUMP! To the early 1980s. I was invited by a Bible college in Iowa to come as the speaker at their Spiritual Emphasis Week. Tam was enrolled to learn how to,"Go......and teach all nations" (Matthew 28:19). God was fantastically faithful to us. JUMP! Tam is in Osaka, Japan. A local church needed somebody to teach English and to join the staff in outreach. JUMP! Again to Spokane, Washington. The pastor of a church there is known as a master organizer and promoter. Tammy is there to hone those skills. While in Spokane, INSTE was making the transition from a Spanish to English based cirriculum. You know the rest. Europe was crying for the program as the Berlin wall fell. Are you too tired to JUMP!?To Hungary, and then Yugoslavia, Bulgaria and the Ukraine. That is how you get to St. Petersburg (The real one). The directors of INSTE tell me that church officials in South Korea are interested. My next e-mail from Tamera? My point in both of these stories is to start saying "YES". Tammy has asked our THOUGHTs family to really pray as she takes a month-long crash course to learn the Russian language. She compares it to "emptying the Atlantic with a one cup measuring device". HAPPY BIRTHDAY-My only grandaughter is 22 tomorrow. Megan is, indeed, "one of a kind". I'll have to wait to tell you about a gift. She reads well. FIGURING ME OUT-Is an undertaking tried by many as it relates to denomination. I have described myself as an "Independent Bible-thumper" My Michigan family (Daughter, Janet, her husband Mike and 14 year old Kevin sent me an item to describe what denominations I like best. Twenties, fifties and hundreds. TAKING MY OWN ADVICE-Recently, I asked you to use these Post-Easter days for a time of review. I went to my website and discovered that these letter have grown longer.
