Hello, A New Month (Already), SORRY-I forgot to mention our national day of prayer on last Thursday. President Truman asked for it fifty years ago. President Reagan set it on the calendar as the first Thursday in October. With Shirley Dobson (Mrs. James Dobson-Focus on the Family) as national chairman, it has become an evangelical event. The current leader adds his personal touch to it at all times, though it is supposed to be a non-political event. I watched the closing reception on C-Span. The presentations and the program were well worth my time. The Apostle Paul listed our first area of prayer as "kings and all who are in authority" in 1 Timothy 2:1&2. TEN CHAPTERS-That would transform life in the church world. My reading yesterday was 1st and 2nd Timothy. Paul was deeply concerned that this young man have clear direction as to how to move the church into the next generation without "diluting the product".. You could do a study of some length based on the general theme of Purity First of the messengers. From Timothy to the lowest office in the church, there must be a high standard. I wonder if the popularity contests of today's church rule would meet with Paul's approval. Second of the message. The marvellous and transforming power of the gospel of grace was the only message suitable for preaching and teaching. Thirdly of the mechanics. The program of the church had to consider fine details. 1 Timothy 5:9 even gives age requirements for a true widow. Haphazard plans and programs of today would get a Pauline "F". A BOOK CLUB-Is not my design here. You seem to respect my choices. The Silent War carries a subtitle "Ministering to Those Trapped in the Deception of Pornography". Henry J. Rogers is chaplain of Interstate Battery Corporation. New Leaf Press-ISBN: 0-89221-491-0 www.newleafpress.net MAY 10.1886-Was the birthdate of Karl Barth one of the ten leading theologians of the twentieth century. His anti-fascist writings made him an enemy of Adolph Hitler. During his only visit to the U.S.A. in 1962 he authored the often quoted line in response to a request for a distillation of all his theology-"Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so". STUDIES-Mike Knibbs has informed me that the studies on "End Times", that I promised last week, are being readied. Keep checking the website. A caution--of course, I am correct; but check with your pastor before using any part. WILLING READERS-I am flattered nearly each week as my readership grows. I need to state again that either you or I can delete. His, Ron Krantz
