THE HARDER I WORK, THE MORE GOOD LUCK I SEEM TO HAVE


"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy 
he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;" 
Titus 3:5

LIGHT-Out of darkness. The absence of any history record in Acts, or much 
reference to race and learning marks the book of Titus. These words may 
arguably be the clearest and brightest statement of the gospel of grace. To 
use this verse effectively in teaching and preaching, you enhance it by a 
contextual reading of verses 3-8. The Cretian creed of life was to "shoot 
all the angles". This philosophy of "getting by" is a sad commentary found 
in 2:10-12. In sharp contrast, Paul instructs Titus to always deal in simple 
and plain truth. This verse is a solid sample.

CORRECTION-Last week, some copies came through with words omitted at the end 
of a paragraph. It closes with the word "Calvary's." There are three words 
that are missing-the entire reading is "Calvary's sacrifice triumphs, 
Hallelujah!"

CHEMISTRY-I wanted another word, but this will have to do. I attended the 
midweek service during my recent trip to Iowa. Each seat was filled in the 
area set aside for the adult study. The "chemistry" seemed so very good 
between the pastor/teacher and the hearers. You got the feeling of good days 
ahead-for years.

THAT'S UNAMERICAN-Was a remark when Jeanene and I celebrated our anniversary 
in 1986. How about last Wednesday? Now it is 48.

MATTHEW 4:19-Captures my eye and heart on Labor Day 2001. "Follow me, and I 
will make you fishers of men." FOLLOW. All that was involved in that action 
makes an exciting lifetime then end now. Please never project the experience 
of discipleship as boring. The second point is found in the same story told 
in Mark 1:18. They "FORSOOK". I will "make." This "making" begins at 
forsaking. The change of goals and purposes demands that we abandon our own 
agenda. At last FISHING and fish. My Michigan grandson is a serious 
fisherman at age 14. Kevin's dad and uncles have taught him well. You are 
not fishing until there are fish caught. Pretty simple life changing outline.
