Hello There, The song for today was printed in newspapers. A friend gave a 
copy to D.L. Moody. He, in turn, gave it to Ira Sankey; his songleader, and 
ask it to be set to music.

Edgar Page Stites, the author, used E. Page as a pseudonym for some of his 
writing.

In my limited experience, one of the strengths of the song is that a group 
can grasp the link between the melody and the words so simply that it can be 
quickly sung.

This song and the narrative in Acts 16 flow together in my mind. The 
conversion of the jail keeper at Philippi is miraculous. " And brought them 
out, and said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, "Believe on 
the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house."" Acts 
16:30,31 (internal quotation marks mine). The jailer may have only been 
interested in saving his skin. The answer provided for a far deeper and 
better solution. A question for each day: Do I provide more answers than I 
pose questions by my lifestyle?

Please take the time to go to the Q&A section. I was bothered by a couple of 
terms used, and got good answers there,

WHAT MUST BE DONE-On a local level with necessary precautions to try and 
solve problem relationships? A reader shared with me that their church 
hosted a dinner with over 250 present from the Christian, Jewish, and Muslim 
communities. I am not recommending this as a pattern. I am reporting the 
action as a proactive answer to those who stand wringing their hands, saying 
"I wish somebody would do something."

AW, SHUCKS!-I am happy that you enjoy these thoughts. "Best thing on the 
net", leaves me with dual thoughts: 1. Can my mother send e-mail from 
heaven? And 2. You must not get out enough.

GOOD SOUNDS-As I sit here typing, the sounds of distant thunder and gentle

WHAT IN THE WORLD-Is right. I received an update on one missions effort in 
Colombia. They were planning an event for 350 to try to make a move for 
unity in this land of illegal drugs. They are scrambling for a larger 
meeting site. Over 500 have already sent word that they are coming. They 
ask your prayers.

SPELL CHECK-I use this tool. Occasionally, a slip-up occurs. The machine 
has a real task on many of the names I use and with spellings that are only 
found in terminology of scripture and hymns.

TWO-WAY COMMUNICATION- Many of you are learning how to easily reply. Some of 
you have even had the audacity to disagree with me on 1 Corinthians 10:32 
last week. Just keep in mind that while I may not always be correct, I am 
never, ever wrong. 

GOOD NEWS-A high school classmate lives in the D.C. area. He, and his wife, 
made a personal trip back to Des Moines this summer. While there, local 
classmates had a time together. At this meeting, a clear testimony was given 
of a miraculous recovery from a stroke in answer to prayer. Attaboy, Roy!!

TO BE USED-I am hearing heartwarming accounts of persons who prayed the 
simple prayer with us before 9/11. It is exciting to sense that God is using 
us. I would like to impose on your time to think with me about Gideon in 
Judges 6 & 7. I will use the "off the top of my head" plan. I first see 
HIDDEN POSSIBILITIES and HEADY PROPOSALS. What does God see in you? What 
does God have planned for you?

The personal circumstance was not pretty. The future appeared equally dark. 
Gideon probably did have a pretty good handle on himself-in his own power.

Gideon gets involved in HEALTHY PREROGATIVES. Choices become increasingly 
important to the individual who has been exposed to possibilities. 
Education, associations and affairs of affection on all levels loom large.

God sovereignly expects and graciously accepts our cooperation. Man is going 
to learn about free will and grace. But learn he must. The miracle of 
preparation must be regarded as essential to any subsequent successes. That 
God has chosen us at all to be involved is a miracle.

I read an engrossing account by a veteran pastor as he addressed a centennial 
of his denomination. The progression was from a 1. Movement to a 2. 
Fellowship to an 3. Association to a 4. Denomination. (His outline). What he 
regretted most was the loss of "the servant spirit" on all levels.

The story of the great victory begins with a subtraction plan. Gideon learns 
about increasing and decreasing according to divine formula.

We see HEAVENLY PROVISION. I have heard and told this narrative on many age 
levels. The sense of awe never subsides. God reveals Himself as a God who 
is interested in details.
